A Carnival Story Walk on Saturday (Sept 14) celebrates historic links with Venice and the city’s medieval wool trade, and will offer young and not so young an opportunity to dress up “fun, fine or funky”.
The procession will feature animated tales based on Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, and departs from The Wool House through the old town at 3.30pm. Meanwhile there’s a drop-in mask-making session at The Wool House from 11am for those wanting to get fully into the spirit.
There are no age restrictions, but all children must be with a responsible adult
“We hope that as many people as possible can take part and join us as we celebrate this unique heritage in Southampton,” says Robert Iliffe, from The Wool House Project on the event’s Facebook page.
The event is free, but donations to The Wool House Project are welcome. Element Arts re-opened the 14th century building, which previously housed the Maritime Museum, on a temporary basis, and has hosted a variety of activities loosely based around the stories of the building.
