22:45 Tuesday: Southern Water say water was shut off at 20:00 with 60 properties affected. "A repair crew has now set up traffic management and started excavating. Water supply is likely to be off until the early hours. We're working to repair the pipe and restore supply as soon as possible and apologise for the inconvenience."
Previously: Inspectors are trying to pinpoint the problem with a burst four-inch water main at the Vanguard Road and Vale Road intersection which has resulted in water being cut off at nearby properties. Southern Water say they will shortly switch off the supply, at which point 30 - 60 possibly additional properties will lose supply in the Witts Hill area.
Surface water is reportedly already a problem and Southern Water say they may have to set up temporary traffic lights in the area.
The company stressed it is doing all it can to rectify the problem, which it hopes to resolve later, and apologised for any inconvenience.
