This year’s Sing For Water charity night at Turner Sims raises money for WaterAid projects in Ghana, with 100% of your ticket price going to the charity. The entertainment features stunning world music in a cappella harmonies plus performance poetry and an invitation to invade the stage for dancing with cabaret heroes Still Moving DJs. Don’t forget some cash for the raffle during the interval!
This annual event, organised by musical director & composer Fiona Funnell, involves The Big Splash Choir, a pop-up project which occurs every summer purely to learn the songs for WaterAid’s national Sing For Water project. Some Big Splash Choir members will be joining a mass choir performance of 1000 singers in September for the Mayor’s Thames Festival.
Here in Bitterne Park and Portswood we’re blessed with clean water for drinking, sanitation and recreation but WaterAid helps provide equipment and education for those in areas where water is desperately more precious. Barclays Bank are match-funding the Big Splash Choir’s own fundraising so if you can’t make the concert, you can donate at their Justgiving page. Local businesses are also invited to donate on the page in return for a song dedication on the evening!
Fiona will be involved in a new Southampton community choir beginning in the New Year (watch this space!) so if you’ve ever fancied joining a choir, this concert is a great opportunity to see her in action.
