Bitterne Park School, which was inspected by Ofsted on June 10 and 11, 2014, has now been given a ‘Good’ overall effectiveness rating. It was previously ranked ‘Outstanding’ from a 2009 inspection.
‘Good’ is the next score down from ‘Outstanding’.
Both achievement of pupils and quality of teaching were individually classed as ‘Good’, while pupil behaviour and leadership and management were given ‘Outstanding’ ratings by the inspectors.
The new sixth form was also ranked ‘Good’ after three years of existence.
According to Ofsted’s report, the secondary school is not 'Outstanding' because the gap in achievement between students receiving additional funding and other students is closing too slowly, teaching is not yet outstanding, and teachers’ marking does not always inform students how to improve.
