Special Investigation Bitterne Parkers have been left feeling confused and bewildered by the irregular striking of the Triangle clock in recent weeks. But after receiving one report that the issue had been logged as a fault with the council, we then received a tip-off that time is in fact being 'bonged' correctly. So we headed off just before noon on Tuesday to find out what's what with the Triangle clock. And this is what we heard...
Regular readers will recall that the clock broke down in early February 2013 causing Triangle time to be stuck for weeks at 12 o'clock. It turned out six pigeons had caused time chaos when they took up residence in the tower and laid eggs amongst the works. It was finally fixed in April 2013, although problems persisted for a while, with chiming on 43 minutes instead of on the hour.
Most recently the clock has been chiming two hours behind the actual time, but today (July 22) we went down armed with a mobile phone and recorded the midday bongs for ourselves. Use the player to hear them from the comfort of your own device. (Sorry about the quality - not up to the wind-jammed standard we aspire to!)
