Just in time for New Year’s resolutions, the 'Couch to 5k Walk' launches at Riverside Park on January 7, and is set to run every Wednesday at 10:30am from the Cobden Bridge side of the park.
Participants will start with a gentle walk around the park and build up their pace and distance over time.
The new Couch to 5k Walk is an addition to five other walks that already run every week in Southampton. They range from a gentle 30-minute stroll to a brisk hour-long ‘Keep Fit’ walk around Southampton Common, and they are all less than three miles long.
In 2014, My Journey Health Walks involved over 200 of Southampton’s residents in 'led walks' designed to help them get and keep fit. So far, they have walked over 3,390 miles - almost enough to travel from here to New York City.

Participants join for a number of reasons: some are trying to lower their blood pressure or combat the effects of type 2 diabetes, others want to meet new people having just moved to the area, and some just want to have a set time each week to get some fresh air.
The health walks are run by Sustrans as part of the My Journey project, aiming to help more people get around Southampton.
