MP backs library campaign

John Denham has backed protests against the City Council’s proposal to close Cobbett Road library.

Mr Denham, who is the Labour MP for Southampton Itchen, said “This library is well used by local residents not just for borrowing books but for community activities such as a parent-toddler group and an art class.  The council hopes to save Ł50,000 by closing this local library.  I am sure that this sum could be found elsewhere in the Council without having to close this much-loved local facility.  It is part of the community, many of its users are elderly and would not find it easy to travel to other libraries in the City.  Once it has gone, it will never be replaced.”

John Denham will visit Cobbett Road library on Monday, February 5 at 11:40.
