Updated The first ABP Southampton Half Marathon – reportedly the biggest Southampton race of its kind since 1990 – starts in Hoglands Park at 8.30am on Sunday, April 26, and winds its way to the finish line at Southampton Guildhall – via Bitterne Park. A number of roads will be closed locally and across the city on the day.
In Bitterne Park, Manor Farm Road and Woodmill Lane/Bridge, as well as Whitworth Road and Crescent, are scheduled to close between 10am and 12pm. We're told Cobden Bridge will also closed so runners can get across the junction.
Various other city roads will also be closed for the race – the full route / road closure map, which also emphasises the major routes that will remain open, is here.
There are two different races taking place across the route – one half marathon (approx 21 km/13 miles), and a shorter 10 km race.
Riverside Park could be a good vantage point: from the map it looks as if participants will run along the first part of Manor Farm Road and then enter the park near Nursery Road to run towards Woodmill approaching their 7.5 mile point, and then run onwards through Swaythling.
We understand Southampton Ukulele Jam will also be playing throughout the race, encouraging competitors on their way and entertaining the crowds at Woodmill.
