Last year a Co-op Group spokesperson told bitternepark.info that there was no truth in the suggestion that its Cobden Bridge and Midanbury stores were to close following online rumours.
But on Tuesday a spokesperson confirmed the decision to close the Midanbury store, which was originally an Alldays, followed the expiry of the lease.

“Staff have been informed of the decision, which has been taken with the greatest reluctance... It is not, in any way, a reflection on the commitment and hard work of the store team.
“Every effort has been made to redeploy as many as possible of the 12 members of staff with The Co-operative, or to help them find alternative employment.
“We would like to thank our shoppers for their valued custom over the years.”
Competition from Tesco Express, which opened nearby in 2013, is also thought to have played a part in the decision to close the Midanbury store.
In July 2014 The Co-operative also pulled out of Portswood, citing “poor trading performance”. Sainsbury's huge store opened nearby in March 2012.
The group declined to comment on the future of its Cobden Bridge store, although there's no suggestion it's currently under any threat of closure.
