Want to shop locally but find it a challenge because of a busy working life? Now a new Bitterne business offers fresh, seasonal and often local produce from various nearby suppliers delivered in one box to the doorstep.
AmoreLocal says it offers a way for people with hectic lifestyles to buy high quality produce from the local butcher, baker, fishmonger, greengrocer or nearby farm, build a box full of favourite produce, and then receive it in one easy delivery
Set up by Chelsea Hughes, left, and Nigel Penfold, they say AmoreLocal not only allows busy people to support local shops even if they can't get to them during business hours, but it also offers an online presence for traders who may not yet have ventured into the digital domain.
“I'd moved to Bitterne and we'd sourced all our produce locally, which was great and we were really proud of ourselves, but we were both working in full-time jobs so we weren't able to do that on a regular basis,” explained Chelsea, who gave up her job as an accountant to develop AmoreLocal on a full-time basis.
“So it's really geared towards those who want to be shopping locally but can't because of their working lives.”

Currently AmoreLocal sources products from Kempton's butcher in Bitterne, Cotton's bakery at Bitterne Park Triangle, Bradley's Fish of Bursledon, and local and organic fruit and vegetables from A.G. Axton in Southampton.
Another possible benefit of using AmoreLocal is that you don't have to order a box every week, as with some other box schemes, but you can simply go to AmoreLocal's website and order what you want, when you want it.
And the company stresses that there's a host of other reasons to buy locally sourced products from local suppliers, from boosting the local economy to being better for the environment.
