There were queues to unload cars at St Denys Church on Sunday as over 400 people arrived throughout the afternoon with essential items including tents, shoes, clothing, and toiletries to be sent to refugees. Read more to hear our audio interview with organiser Nicola Walters.
Meanwhile volunteers sorted goods and enlisted donators to form human chains to move items elsewhere in the building for storage and ready for transport.

There were later reports that the church has been "overwhelmed" by the scale of donatations and is appealing for the use of a lorry, rather than a van, to transport it all to London for the first leg of its journey - if you can help contact This email address is being protected from spambots. On Sunday evening Nicola was appealing for people to help on Tues/Weds this week to move unsorted items out of the church. She wrote on the Southampton Action Facebook group:
More help needed Tues/Weds
"If you are available Tues/Wed this week we are looking for people with big vans, large cars and willing hands (even if no car) to move all the unsorted items at St Denys Church and other sites to the Uni or Storage Unit. We have to be out of the overflow area at the church by latest on Thursday so help definitely required. There are well over a hundred large bags to be moved."
