The venue said on Facebook that it will be moving to what was previously known as The Maple Leaf at 16-22 The Polygon from February, with all bookings continuing as planned.
The Talking Heads name will be retained.
The Portswood site has planning consent – originally refused in 2013 but approved on appeal the following year – for 18 student flats. Among the factors taken into consideration during the appeal were that it wasn't listed as a community asset, and “the very low level of objection to the loss of the venue”.
Reaction on Facebook has been mixed, with many both sad to see the venue leave Portswood, but also pleased to hear it has a new home.
It's thought that Talking Heads was founded and has been operating in Portswood since around 1992. Before that it was the Red Lion pub.
