The project was launched on crowdfunding site Kickstarter on March 17, and sauntered past its £700 target just a day later.

The cash is needed to help the birds down from their Riverside Park tree, refurbish them especially after storm damage, and then re-install them – all within a day.

At the time of writing 81 backers have pledged £885 in total – and the campaign still has 27 days to go!

Bitterne Park artist Sarah Filmer has said that she's “blown away by the love for the geese”, which are visible from the park and Cobden Bridge. She says any money raised over the £700 target will be used for other local community projects.

You can find out about the story behind the installation and read our interview with Sarah here. You can still donate to the crowdfunding campaign here.
