WEDNESDAY As preparations continue for Cobbett Road Library to reopen 'under new management', a free family open day during half term on Wednesday (June 1) will offer theatrical performances, a drama workshop and information about developments at the new hub.

Social Care in Action (SCA) and Unexpected Places will together be re-opening the library the following week as the ‘Cobbett Hub and Library’, providing what's described as “an exciting space for drama activities and community groups to use alongside the more traditional library facilities”.

The fun day on Wednesday is designed to demonstrate opportunities and events people can expect from the Cobbett Hub and Library in the future.

It runs from 11 am – 3pm and includes theatrical performances by ‘Noisy Oyster’, a drama workshop by Unexpected Places, and refreshments provided by the Friends of Cobbett Road Library.

SCA and Unexpected Places will also be on hand to discuss new opportunities for community groups at the library.

'Vibrant community space'

Ruth Marriott, Chief Executive of SCA Group said: “SCA are very pleased to be working in partnership with Southampton City Council, Unexpected Places and Friends of Cobbett Road Library to ensure that the library is kept open. I believe it will be a great opportunity to work with local people to maintain a valuable resource and grow the space to meet the needs of local people. It will be a vibrant community space in which we can share and celebrate.

“I am looking forward to developing a community café, and space for local people to hire, and opportunities for other voluntary and statutory sector agencies to meet with local people in their community making sure services reach those who need them. Our vision is to ensure it is a truly intergenerational space where all feel safe and able to access services they need, as well as ensuring reading is a key function.”
