Local home brewers who meet at The Butcher’s Hook have revealed plans to set up a community brewery in Southampton, and have launched a short survey to gauge interest in the idea.

The Butcher’s Brew Club is now a little over one year old, and says it has already brought together a great community of home brewers, and attracted new people wanting to discover the craft of home brewing.

In collaboration with nearby breweries the group has even brewed commercial beers – ‘World IPA’ and ‘Chocs Away’ – which have gone on sale in pubs, at festivals and in local beer shops.

“From beginners to the more experienced, I can confidently say that every single member has learnt more than they did before the club started,” said one of the founder members, Jason Cheung.
“Dan, Anthony, Nick and I wanted to provide not only a place to meet, chat and drink, but also a foundation of a home brew community where members can engage with other members to experiment and create wonderful beer.
“We now want to build on this by creating a dedicated space for members to meet, design, collaborate and most importantly brew beer! We understand that not everyone has access to space or equipment for brewing so a communal set up would allow more people to get involved and learn from each other. Responses to the survey would enable us to assess the viability of the project.”
