Hundreds turned out for an anti-racist rally in Southampton on Saturday (July 2), to protest against far right groups which had been planning an event to celebrate Brexit, and which were expected to demonstrate under a ‘Refugees Not Welcome’ banner.
Previously it was reported that "Eid celebrations in Southampton had been cancelled over security concerns following a planned demonstration by anti-immigration activists". But the Daily Echo reported the "South Coast Resistance and Pie and Mash Squad did not appear in numbers".
City council cabinet member Satvir Kaur tweeted after the protest: "Southampton people did Southampton proud today - great sign of solidarity that moved me to tears."
