The change is in response to what is described as changing demands.

In Portswood, counter services at the station on St Denys Road will be open Tuesdays to Saturdays.

In 2011 there was speculation that Portswood Police Station would be sold off, but as part of an estates strategy it in fact benefited from a £550,000 refurbishment, despite police stations being closed and sold off nationally.

The neighbourhood team from Bitterne is now based at Hightown Fire Station in Coates Road, Sholing – which itself was saved from cutbacks earlier in 2016.
