Southampton's first Sustainability Week that starts on Saturday (Oct 8) will include nine days of eco-friendly events taking place across the city, including talks, tours, eco-friendly boat trips, bike rides, film screenings, special offers and more – and most events are free.

“With the impacts of climate change increasing, and concerns about air and water pollution in Southampton, it’s a very important topic at the moment. I believe we need to focus on what we can do to make things better, and the events during the week should provide a thought-provoking, entertaining and interesting way to do this.”
Some of the highlights include:
- Tours of an energy-efficient ‘superhome’;
- Eco-friendly boat trips;
- Talks on renewable energy, the dreaded Hinkley point C, recycling and reducing your carbon emissions;
- A tour of a local, community-owned, solar farm;
- A film screening about permaculture (basically, a lazy method of gardening).
