Every night there are around 83,000 young people in the UK with no safe space to go to sleep, according to city homelessness charity Society of St James (SSJ), which is inviting people to get involved with this year’s End Youth Homelessness Sleep Out fundraiser on November 11.
Last year the charity raised £16,500 towards its work with young homeless people at the annual, national event which raises both cash and awareness to support homeless and disadvantaged young people.
SSJ says on its website: “Sleep Out aims to bring a national voice to the UK’s most pressing social issues by hosting events across the country that will bring you a just a tiny step closer to the reality experienced by homeless and vulnerable young people – like Sarah.
“From Edinburgh to Southampton, thousands of people will be sleeping out, under the stars, to raise funds and awareness for homeless and disadvantaged young people in the UK. Will you be one of them?
The charity asks individuals to aim to raise £250 each or work in teams of five to raise £1000.
And for ‘non-sleepers’ interested in going along just for the evening, tickets are available for £5.
