The Station pub, on the corner of Bullar and Macnaghten roads in Bitterne Park, has unexpectedly closed – but its owners say it will reopen in February.

We understand the pub closed its doors on Wednesday (Jan 4). This Monday lunchtime the doors were still shut, the blinds were drawn and Christmas decorations were still displayed in the windows.

Until earlier today The Station was advertised on pub company Greene King’s website, as “a well-established classic community public house of good size and in a prominent location, with strong drinks, food and machine income streams”. The page is now unavailable, as is the pub's Facebook page.
Camra's What Pub website describes The Station as a "cavernous well maintained Victorian hotel. The bar areas are all one room, with a pool table in the 'public' area and couple of steps leading down to a dining area and the garden."
A spokesperson for Greene King told bitternepark.info: “The Station pub has recently closed while it undergoes a significant refurbishment and will reopen in February with a fresh new look and a completely new menu under new operators, Silver Keg Limited.”
One local source said that since the closure some regulars have been frequenting Bar Marina, also known as Marina Ale House, described as an “impressive micro pub” on What Pub website.
Bar Marina is at Kemps Quay on Quayside Road.
