A possible collapsed drain meant Triangle chippy Charlie’s was forced to shut up shop on Tuesday (Jan 10) – and it’s not yet known when the fryers will be fired up once more.

Owner Lee Nicholson said the shop had to close for health and safety reasons as the basement, where chips are prepared, had been affected. And he thought other nearby ‘non-food’ shops could have been affected too.
“Hopefully Southern Water will be able to sort out the issue – just pumping it out if there is a blockage or if, as the drain cleaning expert reckons, that part of the drain has collapsed then they should be able to hopefully get it fixed,” he said.
“I can’t take any chances because in the basement is where I make my chips.
"Once it gets sorted out I’m going to have to power wash it, steam clean it all, so that’s going to take at least a day.”
He said even if the problem is fixed promptly, he might have to remain closed until the weekend to allow time for a thorough clean up.
