Celebrate Year of the Rooster in Southampton

chinese dragon under CC by angiesCelebrations get underway on Saturday (Jan 14) in Southampton to mark Chinese New Year – and continue at various locations into February.

Saturday sees celebrations (free entry) to welcome the Year of the Rooster in Guildhall Square from 11 am – 4pm, with further events taking place as follows:

  • Saturday, January 21, 11am - 4pm at Guildhall Square
  • Sunday January 29, 11am - 4.30pm at Westquay Shopping centre
  • Saturday, February 4, 11am - 4pm at The Spark, Southampton Solent University (SO14 0LY)
  • Saturday, February 11, 11am - 4pm at Guildhall Square

Events include various displays such as lion and dragon dancing, Kung Fu, Chinese dance, Chinese opera, cultural workshops and food.

The Rooster is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. The Year of the Rooster is represented by the Earthly Branch character 酉 - Wikipedia
