A team of volunteers in Bitterne that regularly turns out to clear up rubbish is writing to local businesses about litter that could blow from their premises into public spaces.

Organiser David Eddy said of the team's latest litter-picking efforts, on Sunday (March 19):

“We attacked the car park area behind Bitterne Road Sainsbury's, the cut way behind Bitterne C of E School and, as I was a little early, I went and collected a full bag of rubbish from the wooded area between Spring Road and Redlands Drive, which was the subject of a complaint in February.

“The usual amount of rubbish was collected so there will be an improvement in that area at least in the short term.

“I hope that Wetherspoons Red Lion will be a responsible addition to Bitterne and will keep the area around their premises clean as well as the premises themselves.”

David is now approaching several local businesses about litter he says will blow from their premises, such as from car parks, into public spaces.

The next litter picking event in Bitterne will be on Saturday, April 8, meeting at 10am in the car park opposite West End Road Sainsbury's.  All are welcome to lend a hand.
