Organisers City Life Church, who took over management of the centre late last year, say Britain’s Got Talent street dancer Poppin’ Ron will be appearing at the event, which will be opened by Royston Smith MP. It also includes a barbecue, community exhibitions and bouncy castles .
As previously reported, Townhill Park Community Centre is one of the latest city council facilities to be handed over to an independent community group.
With a 25-year lease, City Life Church say they are aiming to “strengthen community involvement”, as part of Southampton City Council’s community asset transfer programme.
The church has won an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery for this celebration.
Dan Pooley, resource leader at City Life, right, said: “There is a renewed focus on providing more activities at the centre. We hope to introduce more regular family activities in the area and are exploring possibilities for youth work with groups including SO18 Big Local and the community association. We would love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved”.
