Doug Perry, Chair of the Friends of Riverside Park Group, said:

"Ten years ago Friends of Riverside Park (FORP) was formed under the guidance of our then chairman Steve Harding. The aim was to help the council improve the facilities at our wonderful park. As a committee member at that time, I spoke to the teenagers at the skate park to see what they would like. They all wanted a post and basket /net to play basketball.

"This was one of our aims and our next chairman John Hope supported the committee and was full of enthusiasm for the project. Now after ten years this dream is coming true... [the contractors are now] on site to start the erection of not just a post and net but a complete MUGA."

Doug Perry said that he would like to thank the FORP committee for their hard work which included spending weekends asking the public for their views. He also thanked the council for their continued support, "especially financial, and our three ward councillors for all their committed help".

"Most of all [thanks] to Veolia Environmental Trust for their wonderful grant to us of £25,000 that has made ten years' work well worth it. Thank you".

Our previous article from March, which is here, gives more information about the MUGA.

Updated 8/7/17 to add comment from FORP - and to correct typos!
