Police say the guns were licensed, locked in “suitable cabinets” and “kept securely”, but burglars still managed to take them, as well as a number of imitation firearms, some ammunition, a quantity of cash and other items.

The burglary happened sometime between 8.30am and 2pm.

Police say they think it was a targeted incident, and their priority is to locate the guns so they can’t be used for criminal activities.

"I'm also asking anyone with a working dash cam that was travelling on Mousehole Lane, turning from Montgomery Road onto Mousehole Lane or travelling along Vanguard Road between 8.30am and 2.30pm to contact us as they may have footage that is useful for us," said Detective Inspector Pete Boakes.

If you have information you can contact the police by phoning 101 quoting reference 44180072248, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
