• ‘Love the Triangle’ meeting will mull redesign plans on Tuesday
Article continues after this message...
So far we understand some neighbours, including traders, have been sent a letter showing the ideas, and there was a busy consultation session at Riverside Diner last Wednesday (Feb 28) at which plans were available to view, and where some much-in-demand council officers were present to answer questions and listen to sometimes wide-ranging resident feedback.
Busy consultation at Riverside Diner
There’s what’s described as “a small amount of money to do cycle and pedestrian improvements” at the Triangle, using Section 106 funding from the McCarthy & Stone development by Cobden Bridge.
A planning document, which also references a "riverside footway and cycle path" suggests [if link fails try the third document down from this link] there could be around £94,000 in total, including £75,000 towards “improved pedestrian and cyclist facilities including refuge islands, improved sight lines and intervisibilty for drivers including revised kerb alignment and alterations to the traffic signals”.
Senior council transport planner Greg Churcher said at Wednesday’s session right turns have been identified as causing cyclists problems, but stressed that the council wanted to “pitch [no right turns] at this stage,” and stressed that it was “very early days”. He also suggested that initial reaction was “overwhelmingly” against implementing the no right turns because of possible impact on neighbouring roads.
Feedback on the plans – by way of sticky notes
Following the consultation session he told bitternepark.info: “We need to let the consultation finish before we make any final decisions so everyone can comment. From the feedback at the meeting last night there was a lot of opposition to suggested banned right turns. At the end of the consultation we’ll be able to provide a summary of outcomes.”
A further meeting of the informal ‘Love the Triangle’ residents’ group takes place on Tuesday (March 6) to discuss plans ahead of the March 12 deadline for feedback, and to make its own response.
The group has also organised a ‘walk through’ of the plans at the Triangle at 2.15 pm on Tuesday, which anyone who cycles around the Triangle is welcome to attend.
Individual feedback on the proposals can be submitted, by March 12, by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
