There are hopes a new operator will take over the pitch and putt course at Riverside Park that closed in 2015.

A year ago the council said it was working on a licence with Mytime Active to provide pitch and putt facilities near Woodmill, which it was hoped would open by last summer.
Plans then were thought to have been for a nine-hole golf course and ‘footgolf’ facility.
Now a new operator is said to have come forward, who wants to run an 18-hole course. A refreshment facility of some kind may also be involved.
Friends of Riverside Park (FORP) chair Doug Perry said he announced the news to applause from some attendees at the group’s AGM last week. He said it’s hoped to have the course in place by May bank holiday, with work due to start as soon as possible.
Excited
“I think everybody will be excited about it. I’ve had so many people ask me about it, because it’s been laying idle now for, what, three years? I do hope it will be a success,” he said.
Footpath repairs in Riverside Park are also on the cards, he said, and £22,000 of Section 106 money will be spent on replacing furniture.
Worn out or broken wooden seats will be replaced with metal equivalents, and picnic tables are due to be replaced, with an additional three tables planned for behind the social club.
The furniture has apparently arrived and is awaiting installation.
There’s more detail about FORP’s plans on their new website, at http://friendsofriversidepark.org.uk where you can also find out about getting involved with voluntary activities and find details about joining, for £3 a year or £20 for life.
