But residents were reportedly furious at the lack of warning.
Lip service
A spokesperson from Cobden Bridge Residents' Association said: “I'm absolutely seething. Where was the coordination with local groups? They pay lip service to local community liaison, and then pretty much do as they please.”
Sales drop/brisk
And while many traders reported a drop in sales, blaming the suspension of parking spaces (and noise) during the time trials, in the interests of extreme impartiality we eventually managed to find one trader, who didn't want to be named, who told us that “business had been brisk”.
Jobs
An NSP source however said that the event is expected to attract hundreds of spectators, boost trade for local businesses, push up house prices and create 10,000 new jobs.
The event is part of a growing number of events being billed to raise the profile of the ward.
