The incidents took place on Kent Road in St Denys and Bond Road in Bitterne Park.

On both occasions, a boy aged between 14 and 16-years-old was reported as carrying a knife.

At 3.28am, police received a report of a boy following a 25-year-old man along Kent Road.

The boy, described as a teenager, kept asking to see the man’s phone. The man, concerned he was going to be robbed, called police. At this point the boy pulled out a knife but then ran off towards St Denys Road.

Then at 10.10pm, a 47-year-old man was approached by a boy on Bond Road. The boy demanded he hand over his bag and phone and threatened him with a knife.

The victim was able to fight the boy off without injury and without handing any of his property over.

An E-fit has been created based on the description given by the man in this later incident.

PC Sharath Ranjan from the Western Investigation Team said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed either of these incidents, recognises this person being in the area at the time, or knows him from this image.

“These incidents happened in the hours of darkness so we would remind those walking on their own late at night to stick to busy well-lit areas and to keep valuables out of sight. Consider another way of getting home rather than walking on your own. Report anyone suspicious to 101 or 999 appropriately.”
