Luke Tappin, who has worked in the pub for four years, said there won’t be significant changes for the time being, and that he will be “taking over for a little while” although “nothing’s been fully set yet” for the long-term future.
He said for the moment he’s “just glad to be open”.
'Help return the laughter'
The South Western’s Facebook page said: “Come along and join me on Friday 20th April at 3pm to say hello to spring and help return the laughter to the St Denys Community”.
The page stressed cash sales only would be accepted this weekend.
Commenters on Facebook gave a very positive reception to the news: “Yay, this is great news! Good work!” wrote one, while many others chipped in with their congratulations.
Community value
There has been disappointment at the closure of the community pub, with the city council even apparently unanimously voting to support its registration as an Asset of Community Value – which would mean community groups would have to be given the chance to bid for it should the freehold come onto the market. There’s no suggestion that that’s currently on the cards, however.
