James Cole said he and his nephew were running the facility, which is near Woodmill.

It costs £8.50 for the 18-hole course, or £5 to play only nine holes.

Friends of Riverside Park (FORP) chair Doug Perry said it was “absolutely wonderful” because the course had gone to “wrack and ruin” over the last few years.

He said he’d seen about seven people playing earlier, and that it was “excellent” to see the flags flying and putting on the greens.

An official opening ceremony is being planned.
