Southampton Airport has renewed its ‘strategic partnership’ with Bitterne Park Secondary School for the fourth year.
This year’s programme includes 15 different initiatives, including case studies, competitions, award schemes, staff work shadowing, joint fundraising, school governorships, and a full work experience programme which includes, letters of application, and competitive interviews. The airport has also sponsored a series of enterprise days for all 1,400 students at the school, culminating in a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style finale later in the year.
Susan Trigger, Head Teacher at Bitterne Park School, said: “Our partnership with Southampton Airport has been a key ingredient in the school's success. We share the same enterprising approaches to expansion and raised standards. We look forward to going from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
The Airport is also continuing its links with Quilley School of Engineering in Eastleigh, and is establishing a new link with Peter Symonds College in Winchester.
Support for the programmes has been provided by the BAA Communities Trust, the charity established by airport operator BAA over ten years ago, with the aim of putting something back into the local communities around its airports. So far the Trust has made grants of nearly Ł4 million to a range of causes and community projects in the communities local to its seven UK airports.
