No, a new CCTV system hasn’t been installed, but a pair of mosaic eyes has been positioned above the noticeboard – and who knows what they’ve seen!

Where’d ya get those peepers?

In fact they’re one of six pairs of similar peepers currently positioned around the city: you can see others at Mayflower Park, St Mary Street, Warren Avenue, Winchester Road and Dale Road – and you may have previously spotted a pair near Woodmill.

They’re the work of a Southampton-based artist, who doesn’t currently want to be named, who said that they’re “trying to make the city a little bit more interesting, by putting free pieces of pubic art on otherwise bland walls”.

Play I Spy

The idea is that eventually people will be able to do a whole trail, eye spotting across the city – and there are even plans for a website to accompany the project.
