In a statement on Monday headlined “Completion by the end of July” the bookshop said:
“Firstly, a huge thank you to all who have donated and invested time, money and effort to make what seemed like a dream become a reality.
“We do have all the funds in place to make the purchase of the bank possible (as well as a reduction in the purchase price) and are just waiting on confirmation of the loan from Co-operative and Community Finance.
“There is still a lot of work to be done before we move so please do pop in or call if you can offer some time to help with cleaning, clearing and decorating our existing premises or designing and planning the new one. Some help with a launch party would be much appreciated too!!”
As reported, the bookshops was on the lookout for new premises due to a rent hike at its Portswood Road location, and in December 2017 said they were keen to create a “community hub” collaborating with other groups.
The group decided to try to raise £300,000 through crowdfunding and loanstock.
Loanstock applications are still open until the end of the month at http://www.octoberbooks.org/loan-stock/
