Charity No Limits says it helped 843 young people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness last year.

‘Preventing Homelessness’, the project that’s run through the No Limits High Street Advice Centre, provides young people aged 11-25 with the opportunity to explore their housing options, understand and remove barriers causing homelessness, gain the necessary life skills to support independent living, and receive support on moving into independent accommodation or return home.

According to the charity last year 225 young people secured a tenancy and found accommodation, and 96% of young people said they felt more positive and in control of their lives after receiving support from the project.

“Young people in Southampton face significant disadvantages, with 23.5% of children living in poverty,” said CEO of No Limits Annabel Hodgson.

“Disadvantaged young people often lack the independent living skills needed to maintain a tenancy, such as budgeting, understanding and carrying out responsibilities as a tenant, and being able to get along with others in shared accommodation.

“This additional funding will enable us to continue the important work we’re doing to help these young people and we are grateful to the Big Lottery for its ongoing support.”
