The group went for the afternoon because originally a busy toddler group occupied the library’s Community Room in the mornings, although that group has now stopped.

One benefit of the Friends’ event is that it lets you support both a morning and afternoon Macmillan event if you’re so minded: there are plenty of others to choose from following this link: https://coffee.macmillan.org.uk/about/search/

The Friends afternoon tea event takes place at Cobbett Hub & Library (SO18 1HL) from 2-4pm on September 28.

SCA, which runs the library, told us: "We have successfully secured a new toddler group to start at Cobbett soon."

• One other Macmillan event is on September 22 in Portswood, which will also feature a historical walk of the area with SEE Southampton guide Godfrey Collyer.

Walks are at 11.30am and 2.30pm and will last for about an hour, while there’s coffee at the library from 10.30am until about 2.30pm.

You can hear our 40-minute 2015 recording of a similar historical walk of St Denys with Godfrey from this link
