Work will take place on Dell Road from the junction of Castle Road to Copsewood Road, including the section that links to Woodmill Lane.

Resurfacing is due to take place from October 1-4 between 7.30am and 5.30pm, closing Dell Road to traffic but with access for emergency services and some access for residents planned.

To imporve access to Bitterne Park School, the section linking Woodmill Lane to Copsewood Road will apparently only close from 9.30am - 2.30pm.

'Plan ahead' for M27 closure

At the weekend Highways England will be closing the M27 in both directions between junctions 3 (M271) and 4 (M3) from 10pm on Friday September 28 until 5am on Monday October 1 for work to replace the Romsey Road Bridge.

The council has commented: "We expect significant disruption in Southampton and the surrounding road network as a result of these works. The advice is to plan ahead and leave plenty of extra time for essential journeys."

Highways England has also scheduled further closures to complete the bridge replacement works as follows:

  • Friday 26 April to Monday 29 April 2019
  • Friday 18 October 2019 to Monday 21 October 2019
