The silhouette of a First World War soldier at the entrance to Riverside Park by Cobden Bridge, marking the centenary of the end of the war in 1918, has had to be removed due to vandalism.

It was one of 17 cast iron figures representing members of all the armed forces communites at locations around the city, commemorating service members who gave their lives, and those who returned home.
We understand that the head had been removed.
A council spokeperson confirmed that the Riverside silhouette has been removed, and said that the level of damage was being assessed to see if it could be repaired.
"If not, we do not have any additional silhouettes that we can use to replace it.
"It's a great shame that a small minority of individuals undertake actions such as this. We extend our thanks to the members of the public who reported this issue," they said.
