A “be prepared” flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency (EA) for Riverside Park and Mansbridge around Wednesday morning’s (Nov 7) high tides.
• Tidal River Itchen – how do I know when it will flood?
Article continues after this message...
“Wednesday morning's tide at 10:18 on 07/11/2018 and 12:12 on 7/11/2018 is higher than normal as unsettled weather brings strong southerly force 7 winds and heavy rain. Levels will be similar to those recorded in January this year. The tide will cause levels in the lower River Itchen to increase for 1.5 hours over high tide.
“Footpath flooding will affect parts of Riverside Park, and could flood the pub car park if defences are not deployed… Tide levels remain high over the next few days, but further impacts are not expected.”
The EA suggests that installing the temporary flood barrier at Mansbridge should be considered.
The Itchen Tides – Community Tide News website concludes its report by saying that “At Priory Road, residents may wish to install flood protection as a precaution.”
