Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks confirmed that power was finally restored to all homes just after midnight, although many had their supply restored within around 45 minutes of it going down.

The power cut, due to a "network fault", was said to have hit a fairly large area, including homes and businesses at and near the Triangle and elsewhere in Bitterne Park, Woodmill, Townhill Park, Sholing – and apparently as far as Bitterne Police Station.

The Daily Echo reported that 15,200 homes had been affected.

According to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), homes also lost their power in Netley Common and West End.

A spokesperson for SSEN told bitternepark.info that everyone had their power restored by six minutes past midnight.

"When there is a fault the plan is to get everyone back on as quickly as we can and then identify the cause..."

"We got most customers back on by rerouting them to a different part of the network, and the final ones were restored via a generator. The local depot are currently looking to identify the cause and location of the fault and will carry out necessary repairs. Once that's done the customers on the generator will be put straight back onto the main network again.

"We'd like to apologise to customers who were affected by the power cut and assure them the priority was to get everyone back on as safely and as quickly as we could."
