Concert to mark rich black musical heritage

A concert featuring music from some of the finest black composers is being held in Southampton on Friday (Oct 19).

Music by composers such as Joseph Bologna and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor will be featured in the concert, which is part of the city's Black History Month.

The notable works will be performed by Southampton Youth Orchestra, Southampton Youth Choir and the Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra at Turner Sims Concert Hall, University of Southampton.

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will open with a short historical background speech for the audience to put the evening in context.

Black History Month is marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade, with a series of events in the city throughout October.

Tickets to the concert are Ł8 for adults and Ł5 for children. To buy tickets and for more information ring Turner Sims on 023 8059 5151, or email the box office.
