The council says the event, which is on May 14 at St Mary’s Stadium, will provide a one-stop destination for careers and apprenticeships advice in the Solent area, linking employers with students and their parents or carers, and provide essential information on openings for young people.
During the day there will be two closed events for schools.
The first will introduce Year 10 students to “aspirational apprenticeship opportunities”, helping them to make the right choices post-16 and think about how they prepare for competitive applications.
The second will show off apprenticeship opportunities for young people following the completion of post-16 education. Focused on options at the end of Year 13, it enables young people to find out about qualifications, skills and qualities they’ll need to be successful in their chosen career. They can also get impartial information, advice and guidance on career pathways, and talk to employers about business and job opportunities.
At 5pm the show opens up to a wider audience including parents and carers, as well as professionals who work with young people – especially those who support and advise on future options.
Denise Edghill from Southampton City Council said: “Apprenticeships are an ideal way of developing your career, combining work-based experience with training. Apprentices gain a nationally recognised qualification, whilst earning a salary. Employers get access to local talent by taking on an apprentice, or can improve the skills of an existing employee by offering them an apprenticeship. This event is an ideal way of highlighting the fantastic apprenticeship opportunities that are out there.
Entry is free, with public booking from this link. Businesses can also register to exhibit for free using this link.
