Where to cheer marathon runners through Bitterne Park, & road closure details

The ABP Marathon, Half and 10k is on Sunday, May 5, and Bitterne Parkers are expected to turn out as usual to cheer runners through our area – with the Southampton Ukulele Jam once again entertaining throughout. Various road closures will also be in place with alternative routes available. Read more for further details...

Runners are expected through the Triangle between around 9.45am and 2.45pm.

Southampton Ukulele Jam, pictured below at a previous marathon and featured in the video above, are scheduled to play at the Triangle and will be attempting to beat their personal best of playing for 4 hours 12 minutes, while also raising money for Southampton-based charities.

The event will be starting and finishing in Guildhall Square. The Full & Half Marathons will start at 9am with the 10k starting at 10am.

There's further entertainment in Guildhall Square on a big screen after runners have departed, with live footage, interviews and awards.

Guildhall Square is also the finish line between 9am and 2pm for all runners.

The fastest runners are expected to finish by 10.15, with others expected up until around 2.45pm

You can view a city-wide road closure map here (pdf).

Cobden Bridge and Manor Farm Road will be closed to traffic from 8am-3pm, but Woodmill bridge will be open throughout the event, and Northam Bridge will be "open for access to the city centre all day", and "fully open from 2.30pm".
