As reported, this had been the recommendation to the panel by officers concerning an applicatioin to keep the walkway closed.

During an agenda item lasting over an hour on Tuesday evening (June 16), various speakers from Quay 2000 and nearby described numerous anti-social behaviour incidents, and the effects they’d had on residents.

They also talked about the difficulties they said they’d experienced getting support from the police.

Another St Denys resident, and Cllr Savage (Lab, Portswood ward), spoke against removing the public’s right to access the walkway. Savage had stood down as chair of the panel to make his representation, and that of Cllr Mitchell (Lab, Portswood ward), who wasn’t able to attend.

It was agreed that walkway opening times should be the same as those agreed at a development at Ocean Village, which has suffered similar problems. Those are 7am – 9pm April 2 to September 29, and 7am – 6pm September 30 – April 1.

The panel delegated review provisions to officers.
