The Friends of Cobbett Road Library (FOCRL) are asking the council to add a safe, official pedestrian crossing over Cobbett Road at its junction by Bitterne Road West, close to the library, and are running a petition to support the move.

They say the traffic lights on Cobbett Road include a dedicated red phase that could be adapted to signal pedestrians when to cross safely.
“Thousands of vehicles use the junction every day and at present pedestrians have no idea when it is safe to set off across three lanes of waiting traffic to reach the other side of the road,” says the petition, which will be promoted at FOCRL’s cream tea event on Saturday to celebrate 80 years of the library - more on that event here.
The petition isn't currently available online.
