A plan to build an additional floor to create four one-bed flats above Baffi pizza restaurant in Portswood – previously Lloyds Bank – was refused by planners at a July meeting.

The council’s decision notice noted that a roof extension design and associated changes failed “to respect the proportions of the existing [listed] building” and “is considered to represent an incongruous addition that fails to respect either the existing building or the wider streetscene to which it relates”.
The view was also that cycle storage was “poorly located” and would “discourage the use of cycling by residents”, and noted a “lack of section 106 to secure planning obligations”.
An application in 2017 to build two storeys above the existing building to create eight flats was withdrawn.
