“Our plans moving forward are primarily to bolster and expand on the key elements of what make the Hobbit great,” said Jack and Hanson on the pub’s Facebook page.
“This includes a big push on live music, renewed artwork on epic scales, a varied and reasonably priced range of drinks and cocktails, and really embracing the theme of the venue and pushing to its absolute fullest. On top of this, we have big plans for both major and minor renovation work to take place over the coming years to truly make it a unique experience for all of our customers - expect the unexpected!”
The new management are also involved with The Shooting Star in Bevois Valley, and The Black Phoenix – “Southampton’s newest independent alternative pub and kitchen” in Carlton Place, and say they’re keen to listen to clientele and all feedback and ideas they have about the Hobbit for the future.
The Hobbit hit national headlines in 2012 in run-in with Hollywood over its name.
The pub reached £5,700 of a £7,500 crowdfunding goal in 2017 when it faced closure due to “crippling costs”.
It’s thought to be reopening on Friday (Sept 6).
