Now a Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student, Will Jarman was selected as a member of the British Sailing Youth Team for the 29er Boat Class at a selection event held in April.
As part of that team Will competed in the World Championships in Gdynia, Poland in July and the European Championships in Lake Garda, Italy in August.
Will and his Helm, Oliver Evans, were placed 9th overall in a field of 210 boats at the European Championships. The pair’s placing also helped Britain win the Nations Cup, which is given to the nation with the best overall average placing.
Speaking on his success in Italy and on his selection to the British Sailing Youth Team, Will said: “It was tough being in such a dense fleet and staying at the top end was stressful, tense, but great at the same time. My Helm, Oliver Evans, dealt with the pressure and performed amazingly. Being selected for the team was the aim from the start and it is a brilliant feeling to know I have achieved the goal I set out to accomplish.”

Barton Peveril Principal Jonathan Prest praised Will and his success: “We are very proud of Will’s success this summer at the World and European Championships. He is very modest about his achievements but is probably one to watch for future Olympic success. What is equally impressive is that he has managed to keep his college work on track despite the time out. We all wish him a fair wind!”
