This autumn, local volunteers are gearing up to clear the rubbish from our Local Nature Reserve at Chessel Bay.

A naturally sheltered site, the Bay should be an excellent habitat for nature, but it is routinely carpeted with all manner of trash – most of it plastic, brought in by the tides.
Over recent years, news reports have highlighted the terrible effects of plastic pollution in oceans across the globe. Friends of the Bay, with support from the City Council and organisations like Surfers Against Sewage, have been battling away to clean-up “our patch” locally. Twice a year, Council trucks typically cart away around a tonne of rubbish.
If you’d like to help out at the Chessel Bay “Autumn Tide-y”, meet at the end of Quayside Rd, SO18 1DP, on Saturday, November 2 between 10am and 2pm.
Please wear old clothes. Under 16s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. N.B. Parking is very limited and there are no toilets on site. Thank you.
